My work takes its cue from everyday objects and physical motifs, whether the pushing of a button or a particularly chunky slab of shortbread. My designs attempt to celebrate the ordinary, the familiar.

How does working as an architect influence your pieces?
Architecture has given me an excellent understanding of concept-driven design, of materiality and colour. Architects are taught to design within strict and often limiting restraints, essentially problem-solving their way towards an inhabitable object. I would hope that my work reflects the rigour of that education, without losing the intuition and freshness I try to bring to each piece.

What are your favourite furniture and architectural styles?
A real mix, I'd say. It's hard to look past the joyful postmodernism of Ettore Sottsass and his Memphis Group; I take a lot of pleasure from the forms and colours they explored throughout their work. Architecturally, you can't go wrong with modernists such as Le Corbusier, Mies van der Roche, Luis Barragan. Some current practices I admire include Office S&M, nimtim architects and Studio MUTT, all for their use of colour and tactility.
